Jesus Pobre is a traditional Spanish village with modern day facilities that is conveniently situated between the coastal towns of Denia and Javea that retains a bygone country feel yet is only minutes away from the 5 star Marriott Spa Hotel and the La Sella Golf Course.

This small village with its narrow streets, traditional townhouse and pleasing modern urbanizations is dominated by the Montgo Mountain and National Park Area. It is hidden amongst the beautiful woodlands and flat valley that spreads towards the sea with orange, almond and olive trees.

This village has many Fiestas, and a wonderful Sunday market where local traders and farmers sell their food , drink and other artisan products with a background of song and dance in the Valencian style. On the 9th of October (the day of the Valencians) you will enjoy a wonderful Village party and music well into the late evening.

Food and drink plays an important part in the life of Jesus Pobre and there are ample bars/restaurants that provide traditional Tapas, variety of full meat and fish dishes and of course the authentic Paella, all to be enjoyed whilst soaking up the village hospitality and life.

There are many nature walks around the village of Jesus Pobre that take in the surrounding woodlands and orange groves or for the more enthusiastic ones amongst us a trek to the “Cross” or peak of the Montgo Mountain, where on a clear day the views are truly stunning. Food and drink plays an important part in the life of Jesus Pobre and there are ample bars/restaurants that provide traditional Tapas, variety of full meat and fish dishes and of course the authentic Paella, all to be enjoyed whilst soaking up the village hospitality and life.

Denia lies some 7km north of Javea along a spectacular winding mountain road over the Montgo Mountain or a easy drive past the small towns of La Xara and Ondara. It is a bustling resort with a classic Spanish traditional old town, fine restaurants and blue flag beaches stretching for many kilometres, even in the height of summer finding a quite spot is always easy. The Marques de Campo is a lively street, lined with open air restaurants with a real world food theme serving everything from traditional rice and tapas as well as tastes from Germany, Holland and the UK. All these restaurants have adequate open air seating which makes for a meal with great atmosphere, with the added bonus of shading from the trees lining the avenue, many an hour can be spent watching the world go by. The surrounding streets are great for shopping, with plenty of boutiques and designer clothing outlets; Denia provides the best shopping between Valencia and Benidorm.

There is plenty for the kids to do if they get bored with the swimming pool and beaches. Less than 30 minutes away there are many attractions for all ages including ‘Terra Natura’ animal park, ‘Mundomar’ an animal water park, ‘Aqualandia’ a themed water park and ‘Terra Mitica’ a huge fun park, boasting some of the largest rides in Europe.

Casa Elche is perfect for golfers looking for a location to visit any of the 25 courses within an hours drive. The Costa Blanca has many renowned golf courses of which 5 are less than half an hours drive away. Javea itself has 2 – the internationally renowned 27 – hole course at La Sella which is a 3 minute drive away, and a local 9-hole course which is more difficult than it looks and has superb views of the ‘landmark’ Montgo mountain. There are further 9-hole courses at Moraira and Altea and the 18-hole Seve Ballesteros designed course at Oliva Nova Golf Club.

There are also very good courses at Benidorm, Valencia and Alicante, in particular the famous 18-hole championship links course at El Saler, for those who don’t mind an hour or so drive before the round

Javea is a beautiful traditional Spanish fishing village that has expanded to accommodate a relaxed tourist trade suitable for all ages. Locally there is something to do all year round, with traditional religious and local festivals at different times of year. There are so many wonderful sights to explore (lighthouses, caves, cathedrals) some fantastic walks, and sea excursions, also great for cycling and various other activities such as golf and tennis. A lively “cafe culture” means there is a relaxed but exciting atmosphere along the main beach front especially in the summer.
A hire car is not necessary due to the close proximity of the beaches and restaurants , but recommended if you would like to visit some of the fascinating villages inland towards the mountains and some stunning secluded coves and beaches along the coast.

The Javea area

Javea can be divided into three main areas, the Old Town, the Port and the Arenal. Old Town: This is the ancient town centre steeped in medieval history which has largely been preserved throughout the centuries. You can wander through the maze of narrow streets and small plazas. The Gothic fortified church of San Bartolome dominates the centre of the town. This building dates back to the 15th century, half religious half military. At the side of the church is a beautiful Neo Gothic building which houses the indoor market where you can buy local fresh produce daily. The colourful outdoor market takes place every Thursday in the market place. Traditional Spanish cafe’s and tapas restaurants are found here, in the streets just off the church square, affordable amazing Mediterranean food where all the locals flock to. Heading towards the hills you can visit the lighthouse, high up on the Cabo San Antonio, with fantastic sea views, on a clear day you can see the island of Ibiza, The Port: This was originally a fishing community but has now become one of the main tourist centres of the town. Here amongst the modern buildings you will find the ancient quarters of narrow streets with the simple whitewashed fisherman’s houses. It is a lively bustling area with many shops, cafes, bars and restaurants serving the freshest seafood you will have ever tasted! Just the place to sit and sample the local wines whilst watching the fishing boats bringing in the day’s catch. From the heart of then port rises the majestic structure of the church of Our Lady of Loreto with a roof which imitates the hull of a ship. The modern Nautical Club at the marina has facilities for all forms of water sports. The Arenal: Javea’s blue flag beach where the shore gently slopes into the warm sea. The promenade has a number of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants providing a variety of food to suit all tastes. During the evening in the Summer months, you will find a various stalls here selling a variety of handmade crafts. Many of the bars have live music and there are several discotheques for those that like to dance the night away. There are several scenic coves nearby. Grandella , with its crystal clear waters is a favourite for scuba diving and snorkelling as is Portichol. There is even a naturist beach at Ambolo. Nearly every kind of watersport is catered for in Javea, and for those who don’t want to get their feet wet there is golf, bowls, tennis, cycling, horse riding and hiking to name but a few.

Relaxing in a wonderfull Spanish village

Modern and bright, self-contained 2 bedroom apartment with a good sized patio and communal pool, located in a lovely small complex of apartments. The traditional Spanish restaurants and bars are very welcoming; all are within an easy walk from the apartment. The combination of a peaceful relaxing village, with fantastic restaurants, bars and local Sunday market makes Jesus Pobre one of the best villages in the region. If you are looking for city shopping, Denia is only a 10 minute drive away and well worth a visit, tree lined avenues with a super variation of shops, coffee shops, bars, and restaurants. Jesus Pobre is a jewel in the crown of Costa Blanca.

Staying at Casa Elche

We enjoyed our stay. Casa Elche is very comfortable, clean and well equipped. The service we received from Whitecoast Properties was first class. We enjoyed being in Jesus Pobre with its bars and restaurants and also within a short driving distance of Javea Port and La Sella Golf.. We would definitely recommend this property to a friend or relative and would be happy to stay at Casa Elche again.
